IEEE Portugal Section Awards 2026

The IEEE Portugal Section Awards 2026 recognise outstanding Organizational Units, activities and volunteers who distinguished themselves during 2025 through excellence, engagement, service, growth and contribution to the IEEE community.

The awards are attributed by the IEEE Portugal Awards & Recognition Chair and the Executive Committee.

Award Categories

Award Professor Manuel Medeiros da Silva

Formerly known as the IEEE Portugal Outstanding Volunteer Award, this award was renamed in honour of Professor Manuel Medeiros da Silva (1943–2023), recognising his pioneering contribution to IEEE in Portugal and his lasting commitment to the engineering community.

The award distinguishes an outstanding IEEE Portugal Section member, regardless of membership grade.

The nominee:

Must not have received this award previously;
Must not be a member of the Section Awards & Recognition Chair at the time of nomination and selection;
Must not be a member of the Executive Committee during the period covered by the award.

IEEE Portugal Outstanding Chapter/Group Award

Recognises an outstanding Chapter, Affinity Group or Working Group of the IEEE Portugal Section.

IEEE Portugal Outstanding Student Branch Award

Recognises an outstanding Student Branch of the IEEE Portugal Section.

A Student Branch cannot be nominated by one of its own members and cannot receive this award in consecutive years.

IEEE Portugal Outstanding Student Branch Chapter/Affinity Group Award

Recognises an outstanding Student Branch Chapter or Affinity Group.

The group cannot be nominated by one of its own members and cannot receive the award in consecutive years.

IEEE Portugal Outstanding Student Member Award

Recognises an outstanding IEEE member of any student membership grade.

The nominee must not have received this award previously and must not be a member of the Awards & Recognition Chair or Executive Committee during the relevant period.

IEEE Portugal Outstanding WiE Member Award

Recognises an outstanding Women in Engineering member, regardless of membership grade.

The nominee must not have received this award previously and must not be a member of the Awards & Recognition Chair or Executive Committee during the relevant period.

IEEE Portugal Outstanding Young Professionals Member Award

Recognises an outstanding Young Professionals member, regardless of membership grade.

The nominee must not have received this award previously and must not be a member of the Awards & Recognition Chair or Executive Committee during the relevant period.

IEEE Portugal Outstanding Activity Award

Recognises an outstanding activity carried out by an Organizational Unit, Officer(s) or Student Branch of the IEEE Portugal Section.

IEEE Portugal Rising Star Organizational Unit Award

Recognises an Organizational Unit demonstrating significant growth, both in membership and number of events.

IEEE Portugal Outstanding Student Branch Counselor/Advisor Award

Recognises a Student Branch Counselor or Advisor who has provided outstanding support and guidance to the students of their group.

IEEE Portugal Special Recognition Award

Recognises a volunteer who, over several years, has provided high-quality service to the IEEE Portugal Section.

Nominations

Nominations are open until 28 October 2026.

To nominate a volunteer, Organizational Unit or activity, complete the Portugal Section Volunteer Award Nomination Form and explain why the nominee deserves to be recognised.

Supporting documents such as presentations, photographs or other relevant materials may also be attached, although they are not mandatory.
