From the volcanic landscapes of the Azores to the surf-beaten shores of Ericeira, Portugal is set to become one of Europe’s most active hubs for IEEE conferences in 2026. The IEEE Portugal Section is proud to present this calendar of twelve events, eleven of them on Portuguese soil, spanning robotics, communications, intelligent systems, smart cities, integrated sensing, and beyond.

April: Robots Gather in Barcelos

The year opens with ICARSC 2026, the 26th IEEE International Conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions, held on 22–23 April in Barcelos, co-located with ROBOTICA 2026, the Portuguese Robotics Open. The conference is a showcase for the best of autonomous robotics research from academia and industry worldwide.

May: Communication Theory Meets the Atlantic

May brings two distinct events. The IEEE Communication Theory Workshop (CTW 2026) takes place in São Miguel, Azores, from 17–20 May, covering topics such as 6G wireless networks, digital twins, and quantum technologies (ctw2026.ieee-ctw.org). The month closes with the IEEE International Conference on Serious Games and Applications for Health (SeGAH 2026), travelling to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 29–31 May, the calendar’s sole event outside Portugal.

June–July: A Busy Stretch from Vilamoura to Lisbon

June opens with ISCC 2026 , the 31st IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications, in Vilamoura, Algarve, from 23–26 June, continuing the annual tradition that has toured the Mediterranean region and beyond since 1995 (ieee-iscc.computer.org/2026). The period closes with the IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and Industrial & Commercial Power Systems (EEEIC/I&CPS 2026) in Lisbon, from 29 June to 2 July, bringing this significant power systems event to the Portuguese capital (eeeic.eu).

September: Intelligence and Control in the Heartland

September sees two conferences rooted in Portugal’s strong engineering academic tradition. CONTROLO 2026, the 17th APCA International Conference on Automatic Control and Soft Computing, takes place in Coimbra from 9–11 September, organised by the University of Coimbra (controlo2026.apca.pt). Days later, INISTA 2026, the International Conference on INnovation in Intelligent SysTems and Applications, convenes in Guimarães from 17–19 September (inista.org).

October: Porto Hosts a Double Bill

October brings two events to Porto. The IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Body Sensor Networks (BSN 2026) runs from 10–12 October, followed by the IEEE International Smart Cities Conference (ISC2 2026), the annual flagship event of the IEEE Smart Cities Technical Community, co-sponsored by the IEEE Portugal Section, from 27–30 October (dei.fe.up.pt/ieee-isc2-2026).

November: Circuits by the Sea

Ericeira, Portugal’s iconic surf town and UNESCO World Surfing Reserve, plays host to DCIS 2026, the Conference on Design of Circuits and Integrated Systems, from 18–20 November, bringing together micro- and nano-electronics researchers in one of the country’s most beloved coastal settings.

December: Closing with Sensing and Communications in Porto

The year closes in Porto with ISAC 2026, the first large-scale IEEE Conference dedicated to Integrated Sensing and Communications, from 18–20 December, sponsored by the IEEE Communications, Signal Processing, and Aerospace and Electronic Systems Societies (isac2026.isac-ieee.org).

Looking Ahead to 2027

The IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC 2027) is already confirmed for Lisbon, Portugal, with dates still to be announced.

A Year That Reflects a Nation’s Standing

With eleven of twelve events taking place on Portuguese soil, from Barcelos in the north to the Algarve in the south, and from the Azores in the Atlantic to the capital Lisbon, 2026 stands as a landmark year for the IEEE in Portugal.
