Outstanding MSc Thesis Award 2026

The IEEE Portugal Section is pleased to announce the Outstanding MSc Thesis Award 2026, recognising Master’s theses of high technical and scientific quality within the technical and scientific areas covered by IEEE.

Who can apply?

The award is open to students enrolled in Portuguese Higher Education Institutions who publicly defended their Master’s thesis between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2026.

The thesis must cover one or more IEEE technical or scientific areas, and the corresponding IEEE Society or Societies must be identified in the application. Theses written in Portuguese or English are accepted.

Application

Applications must include:

The Award Application Form;
A motivation letter highlighting the strongest contributions of the thesis, limited to two A4 pages;
The Master’s thesis in PDF format;
An official declaration from the Department or University confirming that the thesis was evaluated at a Higher Education Institution, such as the thesis evaluation committee minutes, Master’s transcript including the final thesis grade, or an equivalent document.

All application documents must be submitted in PDF format through the application form.

Applications will be evaluated by the IEEE Portugal Section, with support from members with expertise in the relevant technical and scientific fields. The number of awards will depend on the diversity of the areas represented among the applications. The IEEE Portugal Section reserves the right not to attribute an award in areas where the submitted theses do not meet the required standards of quality, innovation and originality.
