The IEEE Portugal Blockchain group has been awarded the 2025 IEEE Blockchain Technical Community Region 8 Group Award, recognizing its outstanding level of activity and engagement as a local IEEE Blockchain group within Region 8. The distinction was presented during the IEEE Region 8 event held at Universitatea POLITEHNICA din București, Romania.

The award was received by João Carlos Amaro Ferreira, representing INOV, on behalf of the IEEE Portugal Blockchain community. It highlights the group’s consistent efforts throughout 2025 in promoting blockchain knowledge, fostering technical discussion, and supporting education and dissemination initiatives aligned with IEEE’s mission.

According to the IEEE Blockchain Technical Community, the distinction acknowledges the excellence and impact of blockchain training and dissemination activities, reflecting the sustained contribution of the IEEE Portugal Blockchain group as one of the most active local groups in Region 8. Some of these activities were developed in parallel with national and international initiatives, including work carried out within WP9 of the BLOCKCHAIN.PT project, focused on training and outreach.

The recognition underscores a collective effort involving faculty members, researchers, students, and partners who actively contributed to the group’s technical events, workshops, and community-building actions throughout the year. This collaborative approach has strengthened Portugal’s visibility within the IEEE Blockchain ecosystem and reinforced cross-sector engagement in emerging digital technologies.
