IEEE Wrapped UP: A Year of Innovation, Community, and Impact in 2025

IEEE Wrapped 2025 shines a spotlight on a remarkable year for the IEEE Portugal Section — a year defined by collaboration, knowledge sharing, and sustained growth across the national IEEE community.

Throughout 2025, IEEE Portugal delivered an impressive 225 events, engaging 4558 participants and reinforcing its role as a central hub for technological innovation and professional development. With an average of over 20 participants per event, the community consistently demonstrated strong engagement across technical, academic, and outreach initiatives.

A Year in Numbers

The calendar was especially active in March, which stood out as the month with the highest number of events (33) with 395 participants, followed closely by February (28) with 765 participants and January (26) with 453 participants. Activity remained strong throughout the year, reflecting continuous momentum rather than isolated peaks.

In terms of format, IEEE Portugal embraced flexibility and accessibility:

  • 97 virtual events (43.11%)
  • 108 in-person events (48.00%)
  • 20 hybrid events (8.89%)

This balanced distribution highlights a strategic commitment to inclusivity, ensuring participation regardless of location while preserving the value of face-to-face interaction.

Flagship Events and High Engagement

Among the most impactful initiatives, several events stood out for their reach and relevance:

  • IEEE Conference on Games (IEEE CoG 2025) gathered 254 participants, leading the year in registrations.
  • The IEEE Hub at the Job Fair of the School of Engineering, University of Minho attracted 200 participants, reinforcing IEEE’s connection to students and employability.
  • International conferences such as AIxVR 2025 and thematic open days and engineering events further strengthened IEEE’s technical footprint.

Nationwide Presence

IEEE Portugal’s activities spanned the country, with Lisbon leading the way (36 events), followed by Aveiro (21), Leiria (20), and Braga (12). From Guimarães to Porto, Coimbra to Funchal, the geographic diversity of events reflects a truly national network committed to regional engagement.

Powered by Collaboration

Behind every successful event was a dedicated group of volunteers and institutions. The Portugal Section Chapters led organizational efforts with 69 events, followed by strong contributions from the University of Minho (56), Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Aveiro, and several other higher education institutions. Affinity Groups and Young Professionals also played a key role in strengthening community bonds.
