The IEEE Portugal Section is delighted to announce the fifth edition of the Outstanding MSc Thesis Award. This prestigious award recognizes and honors exceptional master’s theses in the technical domains covered by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The award is open to former MSc students who were enrolled in an MSc program at any Portuguese Higher Education Institution and have successfully defended their MSc Theses in a public session by July 31, 2024. The submission deadline is set for September 15, 2024.

As part of its commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation, the IEEE Portugal Section invites eligible candidates to submit their applications for the Outstanding MSc Thesis Award. The award seeks MSc Theses that explore topics within the technical and scientific areas represented by the IEEE. Candidates are required to specify the IEEE Society that aligns with their thesis’s focus. Submissions in both Portuguese and English are accepted, with a strong emphasis on high technical and scientific quality.

A distinguished panel of experts, comprising members from the IEEE Portugal Section and industry professionals, will carefully evaluate the submissions. The number of awards given will depend on the variety and quality of the technical and scientific areas represented. The IEEE Portugal Section highlights the importance of innovation and originality in the selected theses.

Applicants should submit the following materials:

1. Award’s Form
2. Motivation Letter (max 2 pages, A4 format) detailing the thesis’s most significant contributions
3. Master’s Thesis
4. Department/University Declaration confirming the thesis evaluation at a higher education institution. Valid documents include “ata do júri de avaliação”/minutes from the thesis evaluation committee, transcript of records of the Masters including the final grade of the Master’s Thesis, or equivalent document including the final grade.

The submission deadline for applications is September 15, 2024. Late submissions will not be considered. The winners of the Outstanding MSc Thesis Award will be officially announced and celebrated at the upcoming IEEE Engineering Day, scheduled for November.
